The marketplace is full of choices when it comes to LED Tubes. But which one is best for your lighting project? There are two main types of LED Tubes – Direct Replacement and, the more common, Retrofit Tubes.
1> Ballast Compatible or Direct Replacement LED Tubes
These LED tubes work with any instant start electronic ballast designed for T8 lamps. This means you can simply snap out the existing T8 fluorescent tube and then snap in this LED tube and you'll be good to go.Anyone can install these in less than a minute. And since these LED T8s pull less power from the ballast compared to their Fluorescent counterparts, they will extend the life of the ballast. It's easier to upgrade to LED with these as well—just replace the lamps as the Fluorescent ones burn out.
However, a ballast will have a power consumption of 5-8W, so we suggest take it over, for the case of electricity bills. Know More...
2> Retrofit or AC Direct LED Tubes
These LED tubes have their own driver built into the tube and require rewiring and bypassing ballast prior to installation. These are ideal for facility owners with older T12/T10/T8 lamps, lamps powered by magnetic ballasts, or new fixtures that don't have drivers built in.These will have substantial energy savings compared to the lamps they're replacing.
Cost of such will cost less over the former electronic ballast compatible LED T8 tubes.
